Bon voyage -
We are leaving the port of Brooklyn. What an awesome sight with the Statue of Liberty and the NY skyline.
Our room....
We made it!! The ship is enormous. We are on the Riviera Deck (14) floor. Our balcony faced the NY skyline and the Statue of Liberty. We've only been on the ship 2 hours and met some amazing people. We had lunch with Vito, Joe & Joe. They are best friends who were born in Italy and moved to the U.S. 40 years ago. They reminded me of our traveling crew....great sense of humor and always busting each other's chops. They live in Staten Island in the summer and winter in West Palm Beach.

Manhattan
After riding the subway we went spent the afternoon in Manhattan It was a little chilly, but we had a wonderful time.
Today we went to the 9/11 Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center. The museum honors the 2,974 victims of the terrorist attacks. It also recognized those first responders who risked their lives on that fateful day. As we wandered through the book store we discovered a book called Dog Heros of September 11. The book included Heartland Fire Chief Mike Scott and his dog Billy.

The City
We made it to New York City this afternoon. Against our better judgement we decided to risk it and drive to Manhatten. It was craziness, but I loved every second of it - Fen - not so much!
Carlos Bakery in Hoboken New Jersey
We drove to Hoboken New Jersey to go to Carlo's Bakery. We were told to expect lines around the building. Lucky for us there were only 10 people in line. We tasted his world famous cannoli, cream puffs, chocolate mousse cake and red velvet cake....not all at once...we paced ourselves!! The bakery is small, but very quaint. The personalities are exactly as you see on TV, feisty and full of energy. Carlo's sister Maddalena was there taking orders.

Walkway on the Hudson
The Walkway on the Hudson is a railroad bridge turned pedestrian walkway bridge that stretches 1.28miles across the Hudson River from Poughkeepsie, NY. It's the longest foot bridge in the World.
On the water.....
The landscape on the Hudson River is beautiful. This was at Fishman's Pier which is outside Peekskill.
West Point
Today we went to the West Point Museum. West Point dates back to 1778 during the Revolutionary War when both sides realized the strategic importance of the Hudson River. George Washington considered this location the most important position for America. Benedict Arnold was Washington's choice to command West Point. He was a whining little baby and became upset when he didn't get he a promotion he felt he deserved. He conspired with a British soldier to give the plans of the fort to the enemy. Benedict Arnold fled to Britain, but the British soldier was captured before he could deliver the plans and hanged as a spy.

Vacation is finally here!!!
On Tuesday October 20, 2015 Fen and I met at the Laguardia airport in New York for a long overdue vacation. I was coming from a work trip to Detroit and he flew in from San Diego. We rented a car and drove to the Hudson River Valley. We were fortunate it was the fall and the trees were changing colors. We will spend four days exploring many of the American Revolution history. The first night we stayed in Peekskill on Tuesday and Wednesday in Poughkeepsie. We met with the Chris Bodin who is the 911 Communications Director at the Poughkeepsie Police and Fire Communications Center.
